ROBERT KOEMANS TRIO - The traditional piano trio formation gives me the opportunity to fully adress the opportunities of musical interaction while developing myself as a soloist. In Matheus Nicolaiewsky (bass) and Willem Romers (drums) I found two musicians who share my passion for the jazz tradition as well as the urge to develop an authentic and recognizable trio sound.
The repertoire of the trio (at this moment impossible to label with one genre) is very broad. It consists of great classic jazz trio arrangements (i.e. Ahmad Jahmal, Oscar Peterson and Wynton Kelly), standards from the Great American Songbook and a full set of my own compositions.
In my compositions we take influences out of classical music as well as rythmic, melodic and harmonic elements out of modern jazz music. youtube

COAL HARBOUR: CROSSING THE CANAL - Crossing the Canal, a Rotterdam based project initiated by jazz- and classically educated musicians, is a project that is bound to explore the borders between classical composed music and jazz music. These two huge musical traditions and the unique instrumentation of the group; a jazz sextet combined with a classical string quartet, offer a broad variation of musical possibilities. The repertoire of the project consists of adaptations of classical- and jazz pieces complemented by original compositions written for the group. The varied program and the wide range of musical possibilities enable the band to transform from a tiny symphony orchestra to a big sounding jazz group. This unique sound combined with the tasteful implementation of the element of improvisation results in music that is interesting and accessible for a broad and diverse public.

COAL HARBOUR SEXTET - Coolhaven, the place where the members of Coal Harbour met. After playing together in different bands (including the dutch National Youth Jazz Orchestra), they decided to form a sextet together. Inspired by legends from the hardbop era like Art Blakey, Horace Silver and Cannonball Adderley, they play a mix of arrangements of existing compositions and originals. In their repertoire they realise a combination of traditional jazz and adjoining music genres (Latin, Boogaloo, Funk) for a refreshing sound. The band is recognizable by the warm sound of the three horns, together with a lively rhythm section as foundation.

TWO FOR TEA - A duo consisting of me and jazz-singer Anne den Boer (a.k.a. Anne Helena). Together we play all kinds of styles: swinging standards from the Great American Songbook, steaming Brazilian repertoire and pop tunes with a jazzy sauce.
